Angi's current 2026 sewer-repair guide uses$80–$250 per linear foot for CIPP. HomeGuide's current national sewer guide is slightly narrower at the low end, using $90–$250 per linear foot.
For planning, the overlap between the two sources is more useful than forcing one exact “average.” The biggest cost question is what the contractor includes inside that per-foot number:cleaning, root removal, access, liner installation, branch reinstatement, inspection and closeout can be packaged differently.
WHAT DOES $150 PER FOOT ACTUALLY BUY?
The quoted unit price is meaningful only after these six scope boundaries are visible
Camera inspection, locating and measurement establish the defect, the proposed liner endpoints and whether the host pipe is suitable.
Cleaning, descaling, root cutting and obstruction removal can be required before a liner can be installed against the pipe wall.
Existing cleanouts may be usable. Other projects need a new cleanout or localized excavation to create a workable insertion point.
Resin system, tube, insertion method, curing procedure, finished dimensions and project-specific design belong in this scope.
Branches and endpoints must remain functional after the continuous liner is installed. The proposal should say how they are handled.
Post-installation CCTV documents the finished internal surface before the work becomes inaccessible again.
“50 ft CIPP at $140/ft” is useful pricing. “Sewer lining — $7,000” is only useful after the included preparation and closeout are defined.

Linear footage is a strong planning quantity—but only after the treatment endpoints are justified
Using Angi's $80–$250/ft range, a 20-foot lining scope is roughly $1,600–$5,000, 40 feet is $3,200–$10,000, 60 feet is $4,800–$15,000 and 80 feet is $6,400–$20,000. HomeGuide's $90–$250/ft range raises only the lower bound.

THE HOST PIPE IS PART OF THE PRODUCT
CIPP works inside the existing route, so the existing route must be worth preserving
EPA's trenchless rehabilitation material separatesrehabilitation from replacement precisely because the old pipe remains central to the installation pathway. That makes host condition more important than a simple “old pipe versus new pipe” comparison.
Cracks, leaking joints and other defects may be compatible with lining when the pipe can be cleaned and retains usable geometry.
Preparation may solve the obstruction, but the quote should state what must be removed before installation can begin.
A liner follows the host route. Do not assume an interior liner can regrade a pipe whose physical geometry is already wrong.
EPA notes that trenchless rehabilitation projects can still require point excavation where a collapsed section prevents rehabilitation.

Ask whether cleaning and pre-lining camera work are included in the stated per-foot rate. Two $150/ft quotes can have different totals if one includes heavy preparation and the other invoices it separately.
A CONTINUOUS LINER STILL HAS TO CONNECT TO A DRAINAGE SYSTEM
Branches, cleanouts and endpoints are where a simple per-foot quote becomes a plumbing project
The transition should remain serviceable and accessible where the project design requires it.
A continuous liner cannot leave a functional branch blocked. Reinstatement method and access should appear in the scope.
HomeGuide lists adding a sewer cleanout around$500–$2,000. A new cleanout can be a separate but useful access improvement when the existing system lacks one.
The liner endpoint and connection to untreated pipe should be part of the documented finished system.
These details matter most on short residential laterals because a branch or access issue can create a meaningful fixed cost even when the treated footage is modest.
BUY A SPECIFIED LINER, NOT THE WORD “EPOXY”
A professional bid should identify the actual CIPP system and finished pipe—not just the resin chemistry
ASTM's current F1216-24a covers reconstruction of existing pipelines by inversion and curing of a resin-impregnated tube. ASTM's current F1743-25 covers pulled-in-place CIPP. Those standards are useful because they describe a process and finished pipe system—not a marketing label.

WHY TWO 50-FOOT CIPP BIDS CAN BE THOUSANDS APART
The footage can be identical while the labor, access and finished system are not
A national $80–$250 per-foot range is wide because it compresses many different job conditions into one number. When two contractors are far apart on price, do not start by assuming one is overpriced. First check whether they are actually selling the same preparation, liner scope and finished endpoint.
A line that needs substantial cleaning, cutting or obstruction removal carries more pre-installation work than a pipe already ready for lining.
A contractor who can install from accessible plumbing has a different job from one who must create a new entry point through soil, slab or hardscape.
Branches, endpoints and transitions add work that is not explained by the total liner footage alone.
Mobilization, camera work and equipment setup still occur on a small lining job, so short projects do not always scale perfectly from a long-run per-foot rate.
Compare the specified product, installation procedure, design assumptions and finished dimensions rather than treating all CIPP as one commodity.
Post-work CCTV, permit inspection, documentation and warranty terms can make one proposal more complete before price is compared.
The best normalization method is simple: rewrite each proposal into the same six lines—prep, access, footage, connections, liner specification and verification. Once those match, the per-foot price becomes much more meaningful.
LINING VS. REPLACEMENT: COMPARE THE FINISHED ASSET
The lowest construction disturbance is not automatically the best long-term repair
Retains the existing route and avoids continuous excavation. Strongest when host geometry is acceptable and surface restoration would otherwise be expensive.

THREE WAYS A CHEAP LINING BID BECOMES EXPENSIVE
Low unit pricing is poor value when the omitted work reappears as change orders
The headline $/ft excludes root cutting, heavy cleaning or removal of an obstruction already visible on pre-work CCTV.
The proposal assumes an existing cleanout can be used, then adds excavation when equipment cannot be introduced from that point.
The liner footage is priced correctly but the plumbing needed to reconnect the system appears later.
The cheapest CIPP bid is the cheapest only after every contractor reaches the same post-installation endpoint.

The per-foot calculation is easy; deciding what belongs around it is the real budgeting work
Angi's $80–$250/ft range gives$1,600–$5,000. On a small job, minimum mobilization and preparation can make the final effective $/ft less linear than the national range suggests.

CIPP becomes more economically attractive when the alternative requires opening and restoring finished hardscape. Compare the total open-cut corridor, not just underground pipe work.
If the host pipe's route is the cause of poor drainage, the liner can create a new inner surface while preserving the same bad route. Excavation / replacement may be the more complete repair.
EPA notes that trenchless rehabilitation can still require point repair or digging where collapse prevents the renewal technology from passing through. “No dig” should never be treated as an absolute promise.
